Process 6 for Project 3:Cyclical Nature of Things / Tree Project

I was considering taking the tread idea to a new level by inserting scissors in to clip the threads, but I feel that it makes the image too complicated, So I may just keep them out. Also, I don't think my message is being fully communicated, I was trying to convey the idea of similarities between the two different sexes, I don't want this to be a typical romance image of soul mates. Does anyone have suggestions on how to deter from that message and suggest the first? A side note as well, those are actual tree rings in the moth's wings, I just used an invert layer and stretched them so they'd mimic a wing shape, also, in response to some comments, I don;t really want to add background elements because they may distract from the main image. If I do however decide to add something I may make it very minimal as to suggest the atmosphere.

  1. i think your image works really well without a background. all of your pieces this far have all had the same style, and i admire that. i personally like the 2nd image without the scissors where the two sexes are threaded together. i think that helps to communicate you're idea the best. once it is blown up for the final image, i think others will be able to see your idea much more easily. you have so many small details its hard to make them out at this size.

  2. Your concept also conveys to me the idea of humans helping moths and fostering nature with the string to tie them together. Not sure I like the addition of the scissors in terms of the overall meanings implied in the work. At first, I wasn't sure how humans were related to your idea of these abstract species you've created, but I think it's a stronger tie now. I like how your piece switches between three dimensional and two dimensional.

  3. I agree that the scissors add too much and it takes away from the image. I also agree with Christina in that these people seem to be stitching the moth back to life (have you seen Epic yet? SUCH a good film and super funny.) It reminds me of a family who has drawn apart and is trying to fix itself by pulling the ropes back together, or maybe friendships that have grown apart. The message reads very strong and can really have a different meaning to anyone viewing it.

  4. Are you going to include old age and death? I think that would complete the cycle of life well. I think the scissors work for it because I can see it more as a moth. I really like your concept and the way you made your silhouettes.

  7. Not a whole a lot to add to what we talked about in class. Love the image think it's working great. The scissors for me to distract from the overall image and become a new focal point. Also not sure they are needed. If you ditch the white background, then you lose the inkblot connection. Overall great work – you are making good intuitive decisions. Also for me the strings Suggest your concept, the Danger is in being to obvious or literal. Nice work.

  8. I think these images are really beautiful. I appreciate the simple background and agree you don't need anything. I like the one without the scissors the best, but I also think that it could be interesting if you displayed them together... could create some really interesting thoughts/messages. One more thing..for some reason, it's hard for me to tell what the larger silhouette is inside of the right wing. I don't know if that matters or if it's just me, but thought I'd mention it.
    Great work.
